I am too old to ever become a great golfer. I took the game up far too late in life. One area though that I have been able to master though is the Pre shot routine. As amateurs, we may lack the physical skill and strength of the professional golfer. Making a commitment to a great Pre shot routine though is something that we cal all do, no matter what our actual shot making capabilities

The first part of the process is deciding on which sort of shot you are going to hit. Take account of the lie of the ball, the intended target area, the climactic conditions, etc. Wind is often the biggest factor that will make a difference to the ball flight. The professional golfer is meticulous when looking at wind strength and direction and so should we be

Visualization (seeing the desired result of a shot) is a skill that must be mastered to become a better golfer. Some people actually see the shot being hit in their mind, others just believe that the ball will go to the target. Some people see themselves in a sort of video that they play in their mind, actually hitting the perfect shot. It really doesn’t matter which method you use, the effect is the same, commitment to the target

There is obviously a physical element in hitting a golf shot. Preparation to hit the shot can begin as soon as you have made the absolute commitment to the shot that you will be hitting. A mental trigger may be helpful to you to quieten your mind and tell your mind that the execution phase is about to begin. Putting on your glove, taking the club out of the bag, taking a practice swing, etc. will help you to commit to this process

The physical part of shot execution is best approached by starting to approach the ball from behind. All the time re-inforcing your commitment to the outcome of the shot, set up to the ball taking great care over your grip and ball position. Settle into a comfortable address position whilst setting the club face on line with the target line

You’re ready to go when all the elements of the Pre shot routine have been completed. Going through this process allows your mind to focus on the task in hand and not to dwell on past failures. One final look at the target and you can pull the trigger. For some, a forward press will get the swing going, for others, they are strong enough mentally to go when they are ready. The total time taken for the whole routine should not vary by more than a couple of seconds

Getting a Pre shot routine down is something that almost any golfer can do. This is definitely one area where amateurs are pretty awful yet it is the one area that can be mastered with some patience and commitment to a process. Something that will stand you in good shape no matter what you want to achieve in life, let alone golf

Golf’s popularity has soared over the last forty or so years. Names like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods are all part of the public lexicon. Pinehurst, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral are all courses everyone recognizes.

The popularity of golf has increased for several reasons. It’s fun to be outside, you get a good whole body workout, networking with friends or business colleagues at a leisurely pace is an option, and the challenge of the game never goes away.

Your score, over time, should indicate improvement, and this brings you back to game time and time again.

Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who has no clue about the game.

Game play is on an eighteen-hole course; there is a “par” for each hole, which is the number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you approach the green), and putts.

Par is based on the hole length and hole hazards Pars be from 3 to 6 strokes. If you make the hole in five shots on a par five hole, you “made par.” If the ball was hit six times, it’s called a bogie, if you made the cup in four shots, it’s a birdie.

There are usually “hazards” on all the holes. Water to be player over or beside, sand traps, and vegetation from trees to briar patches are strategically placed to make the hole harder. Beginners should attempt to find easier courses to start with.

Players keep their own score, writing down the number of total number of shots for each hole. After the last hole, each person adds their scores-he who has the fewest shots wins.

Beginning golfers should not take themselves too seriously. Many times it takes a while to get good at golf. You are building a totally different skill set. Professionals have great skills because they have talent and have practiced time and time again.

Lesson taking at the beginning is a good idea. It will help you create a proper swing and a good start.

Remember, that it’s just a game. The point is to have fun. Keep your perspective–the worst day of golf is better than the best day of work!

It takes a considerable amount of effort to learn to play golf well. You need to pay close attention to all the rules of the game to be successful. There are a range of mistakes that are common to any newbie, and your instructor can point those out to you to avoid having to rectify them later. The process of learning to play will be much easier.

This is one common mistake: beginners who are learning golf tend to lookup when striking. This can cause a stroke to be counted even if you do not actually hit the ball. So you need to look down after striking the golf ball. After the hit, make sure your hips are rotated. Practice extending your arms when swinging, it helps to perfect your swing especially at the early stages when learning golf. Your last step should be counting to five after you strike the ball before you look up because this will help you pace yourself and help you avoid looking up too quickly.

It is common for people who are learning golf to miss the putts when out on the green. To help overcome this problem you should ensure that you are standing in the putting stance and looking straight down at the top of your ball. If you are not looking directly down, you are likely to miss the appropriate hit and your ball will veer off in an undesirable direction. Only look straight down at the ball when you actually putt and you will be looking at a much greater chance of actually hitting the ball into the hole without having to make unnecessary putts.

It is common sight, for those people learning golf, to see the ball going to the sides of the green. You can easily overcome this by exercising a bit of patience. Your stance may be problematic and should be watched. You need to ensure that you are taking the time to carefully analyze your stance before each swing so you may need to back up a bit to ensure that you are not hitting the ball from the side of the club.

When this happens, it will obviously throw the ball to the side of the green. To be able to throw the ball into the direction you want, take time to develop the strength necessary to perform the strong solid swing. Hooking is another issue novices learning golf have to lean to handle well. Sometimes the wrong stance can cause this to occur, other times it is the way beginners hit the ball that causes hooking to be a problem. Hooking the ball can also be caused by the act of gripping the club too tightly. Practice makes perfect, it may be an old adage but that doesn’t make it any less true!

Golf is a dignified game of rules and manners, and it’s important to know the basics before you play for the first time. Whether you are playing alone, in a twosome or a foursome, you must wait your turn. You must keep aware of the group on the next hole and wait until they are well ahead of you before hitting your ball.

It’s never cool to “push” the group in front of you. If you are playing with others, wait for your turn to hit the ball; never hit at the same time as another player.

Turns are taken in first come, first served order. And, if you get ahead of the person in front of you, they should wave you through, allowing you to play at your own pace.

Another way of keeping the game pleasant is to wave players through if they are close behind you in play. This does two things: makes the whole golf course play smooth for you and others and encourages others keep etiquette in mind.

Anytime anyone you are playing with makes a shot, you should be behind them and be quiet. One of the most grievous breeches of etiquette is to disturb another player’s shot. No jingling coins or unwrapping candy. Respect for the other player is the watchword.

As soon as you have completed a hole, replace the flag and leave the green so that the next players can play. Count your score and write it on the scorecard when you’re back at your cart.

Of course, there are many more rules of golf, but these simple ones will enable you to get through the course without coming to blows with anyone. Etiquette must be observed for everyone to enjoy the game!

So many new types of golf clubs hitting the market every year. It is an understatement to say that it can be a challenge to pick new clubs. If you are a new golfer, you will be amazed by the sheer number of clubs offered. Many things can be customized to fit you. However, knowing in the beginning which customization get the best bang for the buck is daunting. Below are some guidelines to think about when choosing golf clubs to enhance your game.

The middle part of the club called the shaft is the most important part of the club. It connects the head and grip and can have a profound affect on your shot. The length and density can be changed to accommodate your height and type of swing. You might consider the first set of customized clubs be close in construction to the ones you began with. Otherwise the “feel” may be so different that you might not be able to play as well with them as the original set you chose.

Club head size is considered very important when choosing a club. The smaller the head is, the more control over the shot you have. The larger the club face the further you are able to hit the ball, since the contact area is larger and hitting the ball is easier. Head size can also affect your swing. Like bats, the more weight, the greater the power of the swing, but the harder it is to control. Give each club head size a swing so you can get the “feel” for each one and see which fits you best.

Handles can affect your swing also. A grip that slips can not only negatively affect your game, but it can be downright dangerous for fellow players if it comes out of your hand. If you hand sweats, you might want to take advantage of grip material that will minimize its affect.

Last but not least are cost considerations. If you are an occasional duffer, you might not want to spend that much on clubs. However, if you want to improve your game, you might want to step up to a set of clubs that demand that you improve your skill level. The things to consider are your time commitment, the level you want to play at, and what is a reasonable investment to get there.

All these things must be considered when purchasing golf clubs. Many golf stores have knowledgeable people whol will help you choose a set of clubs appropriate to your wants and needs. Don’t settle till you are comfortable with the clubs you buy. This will help you get off to a good start and enjoy the game.

by Antonius Ivalchyn

When it comes to buying a golf club set, there are a number of things to learn. The goal is to find a set customized for your own needs. You aren’t going to be playing like Tiger Woods no matter which set you choose, but a club set that feels right will definitely help you enjoy the game more. And if you don’t have the right clubs from the start, it could take months to reprogram your swing.

The first thing to consider is what type of shaft you want to use. You can either choose between graphite or steel. While this is more of a preference, you should consider the shaft’s flex. When you buy a golf club set it’s important to understand what each piece of the club does so you don’t end up losing distance. Plus, you want to be down the center of the fairway and not look like an alligator going from one side to the other.

Once you’ve chosen your shaft, you will need to know your swing speed. While this may not sound important now, it actually helps you figure out what type of flex is best for your swing. Golfing is a very complex sport when it comes to the technical side of buying a golf club set. For instance, if your flex is too strong then there isn’t enough torque at impact. This leads to a loss of yardage when using any of your clubs.

There is the ladies flex, the senior flex, the regular flex, the stiff flex and the extra stiff flex. Once your flex is determined then you get to choose what type of club head and which brand of club you are going to get. There are lots of manufacturers to choose from when buying a golf club set, some of the more popular are TaylorMade, Callaway and Titleist.

The brand is going to be a personal choice when it comes to buying a golf club set. While any of them will work, you have to get the right loft or degree for each club. This means you have to get your swing tested and find out the exact location of impact. Yes, getting the ball in the air correctly will be a huge part of your golfing game. The good news is when you’re passed this point; the grip is your final decision.

You want to have a comfortable feel when standing over the ball, and the right grip can help. When looking at these, pick each one up and get a sense of what they would be like on the club. Do you struggle with your positioning? Do you feel like you can just get up and take your swing? It’s an important piece to the puzzle, but the least expensive.

If at all possible before you actually commit to buying a new golf club set, try out the configurations that you have decided on. Make sure when you are standing over the ball that it feels good to you and that it also looks good. It is important that you feel comfortable over the ball. Remember that most manufacturers will not allow you to try them out on the course first but many have indoor facilities to test them.

Taking this route towards buying a golf club set can improve your golfing game tremendously. It’s all about have the right shaft, the correct flex, the brand of your choosing, specific impact points and comfortable grips. If you can find all these elements in your clubs, your handicap will start to shrink quickly.

Once again, the golf manufacturers used every bit of their technological and design innovations to provide drivers designed to help golfers hit the ball farther and more accurately in 2009. There are a number of great options out there to fit every budget and handicap.

Most of the best gold drivers of 2009 have the 460cc clubheads that have become so popular in recent years. The weighting systems they use, both internal and external, generate maximum distance and maximize both the MOI and center of gravity for extra forgiveness.

Those factors aren’t as big of a deal for a low-handicap golfer, who is likely looking for something that is heavier on control and doesn’t need the added forgiveness that those drivers provide. But for many golfers, a game improvement driver is the way to go, and the latest series of drivers have a large enough sweet spot and an optimized center of gravity that turns off-center hits into impressive-looking and accurate drives.

Of course, these new drivers cost money. The usual dividing line between higher and lower-priced models is the $350 mark. There are a ton of great buys below that number, such as the Ping G-10, the TaylorMade Burner, the Adams Golf Speedline, the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo, and the Cleveland Launcher.

For those looking to spend a little more, there are some higher-end models that do everything but get the ball down the fairway under their own power. The Callaway FT-9 and FT-IQ, TaylorMade R7 Limited, and Nike SQ Dymo and Dymo2 STR8-FIT are some of the best drivers of 2009, and a few hits on the driving range are enough to sell anyone on those models.

Whatever your budget, skill level, or price range, 2009 produced a driver for you. With a little effort checking out the best reviews and pricing options on the Internet, you’ll be able to find a club that meets your needs.

by Carol Bell

In order to play the game of golf, there are certain pieces of equipment required. Some of these pieces of golf equipment are absolutely required, while other pieces of equipment are optional. Some optional equipment could include golf shoes, golf gloves, golf hat and a golf cart. The required items of equipment that are needed to play the game in include golf tees, golf balls and golf clubs.

Of those 3 items, golf clubs are possibly the most urgent. Golfing clubs are the key tools to play the game of golfing and can be specified into 2 separate areas. Those areas are the drivers and irons.

Generally, the first golf club that a golfer uses to drive the ball off of the tee is a driver. With the driver the golfer attempts to drive or hit the ball down the fairway at the greatest distance possible. However, it is important to make sure that with the initial drive you do not sacrifice accuracy for distance.

Therefore, selecting the right driver is an important purchase. When selecting this golf club it is important to take into consideration the length of the shaft of the golf club. This consideration should be based upon the golfer’s height. Most golfers who range in height from 52 to 510 can normally use a standard length club.

Drivers can be made using normal wood materials or can be made of metals like titanium. In addition there are numerous features that will be incorporated on this golfing club which will help the golfer with their golfing swing. One such feature is fusion technology which helps to shift the weight of the driver’s head to compensate for the swing of the golfer.

Irons The golfing clubs that are referred to as the irons are those golfing clubs that are used after the first drive off the tee. As with the driver the shaft of the iron must be in proportion to the golfer’s height.

Sometimes , there are eight clubs that make up a group of iron golfing clubs. The heads of these golfing clubs can be made from graphite or steel. In addition they can be forged or casted. Forging an iron golfing club is comparable to how a blacksmith forges their work and consists of the basic form being hammered out. Casting involves the substance used to formulate the iron being poured into a pre-fabricated mold.

Irons are distinguished from other golfing clubs in the heads are angled. Each one of the irons maybe graduated in their angle by in.
